Mike Guanlao jokingly describes himself as a Filipino Redneck - he's a first generation son of Filipino parents that grew up in South Carolina. It was there where traditional low country and Filipino dishes shared the same table. After moving to Seattle back in 2000, these were the foods he missed most when he was homesick.
Mike grew tired of working under other chefs around town, and eventually he was able to fulfill his dream of opening his own food truck. He got his start selling Shrimp and Grits out of a tent at local farmers markets and was able to save up enough money to buy a truck.
Since 2014, Kiss My Grits has been delivering their blend of Low country and Filipino street food to a equally diverse clientele. All of their soulful dishes are served with Southern hospitality with a side of sass!
